Disney Hit With More Layoffs As Latest Woke Projects Bomb Hard
2025-07-01
[ZERO] It would seem that Disney still hasn't learned its lesson when it comes to DEI in entertainment. The company which just initiated a series of layoffs of hundreds of employees at the beginning in June is now getting rid of at least 2% of staffers in its product and technology division.

The staff cuts are only part of an ongoing trend over the past few years as Disney's profits at the box office tumble into the abyss. Only ten years ago the company dominated theaters and television, but it is now reeling from an endless string of embarrassing failures.

The company's latest entertainment bungles include the Pixar film Elio, about a Mexican-Domincan boy obsessed with space travel who is accidentally taken by aliens to the "Communiverse", an intergalactic socialist Utopia where all the species of the universe get together and work out their problems.

Continuing with their messaging that minority characters are infallible no matter what they do, Pixar writes Elio as a spoiled thief who seems to get whatever he wants. His background as an orphan living with his aunt is meant to invoke sympathy from the audience, but the effort falls flat.

#14  Like it, have fun, new system '5' racing, fine, it is about enjoying yourself. I might fly a Rhubarb in a minute and that isn't for everyone, but I'm starting to understand the hold out of Dragon Lance.

#13  My dude KBK, the release of a How to Train Your Dragon, or The Running man, are two points which should never be touched. Like Krull, or Total Recall, or Red Dawn. Toy Story 5, live action Frozen 3?

It is all retro-grade, and not in the fun sense like the video game Dead Cells.

#12  Yes, it will sell tickets.

Guess I didn't know or care, She so associated with MCU.

The overall health of entertainment is suspect.

And I have to admit, my predictions that an interactive movie game has turned out to be shit. "Walking Simulator" is what they are being panned as, the Indiana Jones game, Dragon Veil, World of Warcraft, other AAA games.

#11  My word, swksvolFF, you get started pretty early in the day. I'm only on my second. But, good stuff!

#10  ^ assuming you are talking about Jurassic Park: rebirth

that is not a Disney production, it is a Universal Pictures production

Based on the viewership in europe where it has already been released, this is expected to be a substantial money maker - projected first weekend sales of $100M or so in the USA

#9  Couple laughs.

The Architect, The Matrix:
"We have destroyed your Jurassic Park sequels six times...we have become very efficient."

Me to a dinosaur lover:
"This sequel looks like a Ubisoft General version of Lara Croft."
"LOL"

Here's a posit:
The original version of Elio was about a confused good looking boy being abducted by the 'spicier' parts of the LG+ community. A Groomer allegory, if you will, they want this 'one eye'.
Gross I know, wraps with the immigrant children being divvy'd to 'foster parents'. Been gaslighted for less..

#8  And Robert Downey, Jr. looks sick or vegan.

Oh.

#7  The lead actor for their next superhero whatever got stoned out his mind and fellated some risque glow sticks.

Now the lead actress on the next dinosaur movie is complaining about Male Gaze, though she has been cast as attractive woman her whole career; that and I guess it will be hybrid dinosaurs. You know, flying velociraptors. Ugh.

But wait, there's more. Are you pumped for Season 2 of Kanobi? A Mando and Grogu movie? Trilogy?

How about a new section of park based on the Cars Universe? Remember Cars? Remember?

#6  Looks like the sympathy meter will not move when Disney tries to get their mouse copyright extended to forever.

#4  per box office mojo, Elio, which is an animated film, had a $20M domestic opening weekend and a second weekend of about $10M

It had a production cost of at least $150M, probably will cost $300M or more after adding marketing, distribution, etc. So it may well be a net loss for Disney.

Attendance numbers for 2024 are hard to find, almost like hidden.

I guess Disney's Business model must have counted on, more perverted, DEI, minority attendance than actually cared to waste the $$.

#2  ...Oh, it gets better: Elio was originally written and cast with the title character being a gay 11-year old boy.

Not only did test audiences overwhelmingly hate it, actress America Ferarra - who is far from a MAGA coservative - quit the movie and her voice role. A good chunk of the movie was rewritten....but it doesn't seem to have helped.

That whirring noise you hear is Walt rotating in his grave fast enough to enrich uranium.

BTW, it's not just Disney "messaging."
