The statement, agreed upon at the UN conference to resume the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, calls for an end to Hamas rule in Gaza and the transfer of weapons to the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who represented France and Saudi Arabia at the conference, stressed that Arab and Middle Eastern countries condemned Hamas and the events of October 7, 2023 for the first time, calling for the disarmament of the organization, its exclusion from the Palestinian governance system, and an intention to normalize relations with Israel in the future.
In addition, Western countries supported the idea of deploying foreign forces in the Gaza Strip to stabilize the situation after the end of the war.
It is noted that the United States and Israel did not participate in the conference.
On July 24, Hamas sent a response to the ceasefire and hostage release proposal. The previous version of the response, dated July 22, was not even transmitted to Israel and the US, and the mediators rejected it as “unacceptable” because the parties had not agreed on the withdrawal line for Israeli troops.
On July 25, the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov indicated that Moscow supports the UN Security Council resolutions on the Palestine issue, considering them the only way to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.
