The Justice Department (DOJ) on Tuesday released a revised list of sanctuary cities, states and counties, months after it pulled a longer list that included communities that supported the Trump administration's response to the border crisis. The new list was compiled based on actions and policies of the jurisdictions that impede enforcement of federal immigration statutes and regulations, and was made after a careful review of the impacted jurisdictions' "documented laws, ordinances, and executive directives." The list is expected to be updated if the states, cities and counties make the necessary changes to comply with federal immigration law. Each location can also challenge their placement on the list. The list comes after the Trump administration sued multiple states and cities over their sanctuary policies, including New York state, Colorado, Illinois, Los Angeles and several New Jersey cities. |
