[Rudaw] A bomb planted inside an old car went kaboom!in Damascus on Saturday. There are no immediate reports of casualties. "The vehicle involved in the earth-shattering kaboom had been parked unattended for some time," the chief of internal security in Damascus province, General Osama Muhammad Khair Atika, told Rudaw. "The area is well-known, a highway next to the hotel and the Ministry of Information building," he added. "Engineering units secured the cordon and investigation units have now entered the area to review information and photographs from the site so we can complete our procedures," he said. The car was parked near the Golden Hotel in the Mezzeh area of western Damascus, according to the governor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported. This is the latest in a string of recent explosions in Syria. On Thursday, a blast in the northwestern city of Idlib killed at least four people, including two children, and injured five others. While initial reports described the site as a residential building, local authorities told Rudaw the blast occurred at a warehouse storing "war remnants." In late July, a series of blasts in a warehouse in northern Idlib killed 12 people. |
