[Regnum] A new magnetic storm is approaching the Earth, it will begin on Tuesday, August 19. This was reported by the solar astronomy laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“Starting Tuesday, August 19, a new coronal solar hole will begin to affect the Earth’s magnetic field, causing 1-2-day medium-level magnetic storms,” the scientific organization’s Telegram channel says.
The laboratory noted that due to the impact of magnetic storms on the Earth, the geomagnetic situation will be extremely unstable.
According to scientists' calculations, there is a high probability that the storms will continue on Wednesday.
Earlier, on August 15, the IKI RAS reported that a large coronal hole had begun to form on the Sun, threatening to provoke strong magnetic storms on Earth. Because of this, the speed of the solar wind in the vicinity of the Earth will begin to increase on Monday, August 18, and may reach a high level within a few days, exceeding the usual indicators by 2.5 times, the organization added.
