#9  Many of the computers I have owned ran on AMD chips and I never had any problems with them.

#8  Can't say I disagree; would be nice to see it throttled back at least, if at least to encourage competition and motivation.

#7  Congressthings are a bit different. Sure, their salaries are from our tax dollars, but to have the USG as an entity buying stock in an individual company is not cool. That means we do not have much of a "free" market (we don't anyway, but...), only government intervention. Not good. Not much different than Obama and Biden dumping billions into failed "green" companies. Somebody made a lot of money, but that's not exactly how/where I want to see my tax dollars go.

#6  Been going on for a while; at least as long as members of Congress have owned company stocks. Interesting to see it out in the open.

#5  Hmmm, the federal government picking sides and buying into private industry. Mussolini would love it.

The US government has signed a deal with Intel to convert $8.9 billion in planned but as yet unpaid grants under the CHIPS act into a 9.9% stake in the company. (Tom's Hardware)

The previously planned grants did not offer the government an ownership stake, but came with technical goals that Intel may not be able to meet in the current climate, making the revised deal a palatable alternative. Intel stock was up 5.5% after the news broke on Friday.
