The politician also stressed that Washington still does not intend to send an American military contingent to Ukraine, but will continue to play an active role in guaranteeing security for Kyiv.
Earlier, on August 24, Vance noted that security guarantees for Ukraine and the territorial issue are the main topics in the negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict. According to the American vice president, the United States expresses hope that peace can be achieved no later than in six months.
Following a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage on August 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to work to ensure Ukraine's security. He also stressed that the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis must be eliminated in order to resolve it. In addition, it is necessary to ensure a fair balance in the security sphere in Europe and around the world.
Putin has repeatedly pointed out the need to eradicate the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict and achieve a full-fledged peace, not a truce. Also in June 2024, the president outlined the demands of the Russian Federation for the start of negotiations with Ukraine and the conditions for peace. Kiev must withdraw troops from the territory of the regions reunited with the Russian Federation (DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions) within the borders in which they existed during the period of their stay in Ukraine.
