"A year ago, we already raised the question of the president's resignation. Now we will do it again on September 23 and, in addition to the vote of no confidence, we will introduce a motion to remove Macron from power," he said on France Inter radio.
At the same time, Mélenchon expressed the opinion that a vote of no confidence would lose its meaning by that time, since the French government would already have fallen.
On September 17, 2024, members of the left-wing party "France Insoumise" sent a resolution to impeach Macron after the head of state decided not to invite the left to the country's new government, despite their coalition's victory in the parliamentary elections. The proposal concerns the article of the French constitution that provides for the possibility of impeachment if the president violates his duties.
At that time, 81 deputies from the New Popular Front, including 72 representatives of Unbowed France, expressed support for the resolution on Macron's impeachment. In addition, the Greens and a number of members of the Left Democrats and Republicans group were ready to approve the initiative.
However, in early October 2024, the French legislative commission of the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) rejected the proposal to impeach Macron. Only 15 deputies supported the initiative, while another 54 lawmakers voted against.
