Turkey's largest overseas military base, it trains Somali troops and has a capacity to train 1,500 soldiers at a time.

Over 16,000 Somali troops have reportedly been trained at the base, with a goal of training 10,000 soldiers.

Turkey and Somalia have signed agreements for maritime security cooperation, with Turkish forces assisting in law enforcement.

Turkey supports Somalia's efforts to combat terrorism, particularly the al-Shabaab militant group.
